Every day more and more people are looking for alternative ways to make money, or to earn a living, both in the online and offline worlds. People are starting to realize that having a “job” and working 40+ hours a week for 40 years is not the ideal way to live. I find the idea of working that long repulsive myself.

Let me help you move past some more of your negative emotions and thoughts by telling you a little about me and how I have used the steps in this eBook to make money for the past several years. I’m not saying everyone is going to get filthy rich if they follow the steps I have, but I do know these steps have made me a great income. They have worked for me, and I believe they will work for you too.

I first got into the dot com boom way back before it was a boom or the subsequent bust. I did everything wrong… at one time I owned over 6,000 website domain names. I bought them up like wildfire as if they were some virtual piece of real estate. The thought being, sell them to the highest bidder who wants to develop them and make a fortune.

FAIL! I sold precisely 7 domain names giving me a whopping $35,000 in revenue that year. That sounds wonderful until you do the math… 6,000 domain names at $19 per name comes out to $114,000! Then add hosting fees on top of that and time spent on marketing the names on top of that… I lost my tail in this virtual real estate market.

That’s when I got the crazy notion that because so many others had done so well and I did so poorly that it must have been because the market was just too saturated. That might have been the case with domain name brokering.

I pressed on. I told myself, “It’s because the domain names were like vacant lots with no buildings on them.” I kept some of the domain names I liked the best and set out to develop these vacant lots. I am, after all, a computer programmer. This should be easy.

FAIL! What on Earth was I thinking? Designing, developing and taking a website that provides a service to market is a lot of hard work and not a lot of pay in most cases. I didn’t have much money. I had an ex-wife who sucked every penny she could out of me. I didn’t have any financial backers and I had just spent a hefty six-figures on vacant lots in the domain name game. But the “Hey! I’m a programmer. I can do this!” mindset kicked in and I gave it a try.

I was able to get a product out to market. It took eight months of countless all night programming efforts and very little time with my new wife, family or friends. Suffice it to say… one of the worst eight months of my life.

In the end, I did make about $40,000 that year after expenses. But then came the nightmare of scaling the application to support a growing user base as well as technical support employees and constant debugging and well… you get the picture. I sold the dang thing for $10,000 and walked away dismayed.

What was I doing wrong?

Then it hit me… my model was all wrong. I was trying to do something online in a virtual world and sell to people who live in the real world.

That’s when I took a different type of approach to making money online.

My eBook isn’t like all the rest that tell you that you can do it all for free, if you will learn some esoteric skill such as SEO optimization or PHP programming, etc. While I do have those skills and many others, I find that I rarely use them. I don’t need to.
